Chateau Beynac - we are around the corner on the way up to the chateau. The movie "Chocolat" was partly filmed here as was "Ever After" (scenes at the Prince's Castle were shot at Hautefort - under an hour away). |
Our home for the week. Our host has pictures of the house, village and area here. |
Chateau Feyrac, along the Dordogne River |
Cave dwellings from prehistoric times to the middle ages. Check this site. Nearby are the prehistoric cave paintings at Lascaux. |
Make a stop in Castelnaudary - the home of Cassoulet (and the only place for the genuine article, they claim) |
We'll also wander around Carcassonne. Ali and I visited there in '98. |
Rachel and I spent a few days in Collioure in 2006; really liked the village and the drives along the coast. Here she is in front of the hotel Le Mas des Citronniers |
Collioure harbour. About 20 miles down the coast is Spain; Rachel and I really liked the restaurant in Portbou. |

I've always wanted to go on the Little Yellow Train up the Pyrenees. |
... and Cathar country has always fascinated me. |
Ali and I passed through here, but I've always wanted to spend a little time. This is where Van Gogh did some of his most intense work. We can also walk to the Roman ruins at Glanum or visit Les Baux. We're staying at the Hotel Gounod. |
When we leave we'll drive throught the Canyon Verdon, which Rachel and I explored before. |
The Welcome Hotel in Villefranche sur Mere. |
The Matisse Museum in Nice. We'll also try to get to Eze again. |
